| Burning Man : Black Rock City, Nevada |
| BOK GLOBULE was a 30' geodesic digital planetarium set up in the deep playa of the Black Rock Desert of Nevada for Burning Man 2004 in celebration of the Vault of Heaven theme.
Throughout the week, Carter Emmart, Director of Astrovisualization at the Hayden Planetarium, guided interactive tours of the Digital Universe. The Elumenati projected real-time amplitude-reactive 2D/3D abstract visualizations. Paul Bourke's Panodome was used to display interactive panoramas from Greg Downing and others.
On the outside of the dome, Leo Villareal mounted his Supercluster, a matrix of 640 sequenced led fixtures pulsing in patterns and rhythms that suggest twinkling stars, zooming planets, and cosmic systems bursting with life and activity. The dome and projection screen were designed and constructed by the Department of Tethered Aviation.
The white-out sandstorms and nightly temperatures below freezing predictably took its toll on our Omnifocus HAL-X1, but prepared us for that inevitable digital dome theater on Mars. |
