The mission of the RENCI Engagement Site at the National Environmental Modeling and Analysis Center is to bring the latest communication tools and technologies to bear on pressing problems. A GeoDome Portal at the RENCI engagement site in Asheville is used to illustrate the impact of decisions about development and land use on the environmental balance of the region. We created custom tools for the Unity3D engine the let RENCI staff import GIS files for realistic, interactive representations of terrain data, which they use in education and decision support for Western North Carolina policymakers and citizens.

We also collaborated with RENCI and a team of science writers and animators to develop Water in Western North Carolina, a series of animated films that illustrates issues that are key to the region’s watersheds. The films have been shown for decision-makers, legislators, scientists and communities around the nation.
