D’nardo Colucci, Elumenati co-founder and company president, presented the keynote for the 8th annual CAAVCon. The Campus Alliance for Advanced Visualization (CAAV) is an organization for higher education focusing on immersive visualization platforms. In his talk, “Interactivity in Virtual Environments,” D’nardo presented 20+ years of Elumenati experience in using interaction – both successes and failures – with predictions for the near future. He discussed The Elumenati’s firm belief in the benefits of GroupVR in social, collaborative experiences like the ones we build in the GeoDome, and the limited utility of head-worn VR (HMDs).
On the latter, D’nardo was (politely) forced to eat crow. Other talks at the conference – including Carrie Roy’s (Bayer Agricultural) “Leveraging AR and Smart Glasses in Data Collection” and George Takahashi’s (Purdue University) “Collaborative XR Multi-Domain Platform for Education” – show that there is real utility for HMDs beyond the initial novelty. Also a big shout out to John Jeka’s (University of Delaware) “Virtual Reality for NeuroRehabilitation.” Their team is using an OmniFocus projection system bought through our longtime integrator, Bertec Corp.
Check out all the interesting work from The CAAV!
