The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher each acquired a GeoDome Theater in 2009, as outreach venues for a content piece called Marine Mammals: Immersed in Change. The content was an essential part of the “Using Marine Mammals to Communicate Solutions to Ocean Issues” project. Funded through a NOAA Ocean Education grant, the program helped teens ages 12-17 to understand how marine mammals are affected by climate change and inspires them to be part of solutions. We collaborated with the museum and the aquarium to develop content. The two GeoDomes traveled to institutions around North Carolina to showcase the Marine Mammals project in 2011 and 2012, and presented at major conferences for marine and climate educators.
We’ve worked with both NCMNS and the Aquarium at Fort Fisher on interactive immersive installations, and it’s an honor to see our technology used in support of such an important mission.
