Celestial Mechanics is a planetarium artwork created by Scott Hessels and Gabriel Dunne of the UCLA Design | Media Arts program. Instead of stars and planets, the night sky program reveals many of the aerial technologies hovering, flying, and drifting above us. The project mixes science, statistical display, and contemporary art by interpreting the mechanical patterns and behaviors of these systems as culturally significant poetics. The Elumenati provided technical support to the Celestial Mechanics artists, walking them through the process of preparing fulldome renderings for display inside of our portable dome using an Omnifocus HAL-X2 projector.
