A GeoDome Theater will drive an outreach program for the Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium, which will reach K12 students across Long Island in both Suffolk and Nassau Counties. The Vanderbilt team will also bring the GeoDome to libraries, nursing homes, and community events held by various Long Island townships. It may be featured at private and corporate events as a means of revenue generation. Programming will feature a combination of fulldome movies and live tours of the Universe, using WorldViewer and the suite of astronomy applications in our OpenPlayground for Astronomy.
The team Vanderbilt chose the GeoDome over other portable dome options because of its dual-pressure construction and the OpenDome doorway, which stays open during shows and enables accessibility for all ages and abilities. WorldViewer’s ability to incorporate third-party applications like OpenSpace and Stellarium was another factor in their choice to go with the GeoDome.
The 6m inflatable Theater is illuminated by an OmniFocus 30300 projection system, with 6,000 lumens at 3840×2160 resolution. It’s housed in a compact road case with audio and a high performance Elumenati IG.
We look forward to collaborating with this newest addition to the GeoDome Network!
