With a mission of exploring the ocean and bringing it back to the world, OceanX Education creates programming and experiences to connect learners with cutting edge ocean research. In the spring of 2024, the team added a GeoDome Portal to their offerings, in the Ocean Portal program. The inflatable Portal dome packs up quickly and is stored in a reasonably sized container, so the OceanX team can store it on the OceanXplorer research vessel and set it up at port stops. A kiosk in front of the dome incorporates a touchscreen and an OmniFocus 30310 projection system with 4K resolution at 6,000 lumens, making setup quick and simple.

With WorldViewer as the CMS, visitors – especially students and educators – can see footage taken aboard OceanXplorer’s submersibles giving them a unique view of deep ocean environments. Other footage played on the portal allows viewers to virtually tour the ship and experience what it is like to be on the deck during deployment of submersibles, robots and helicopters. WorldViewer makes it straightforward to add new content to the dome and interactive user interface as the OceanX team creates it.
