Animatronic Dolphin Discovery at the NC Aquarium

An animatronic dolphin teaches visitors about the lives of bottlenose dolphins in the new Dolphin Discovery exhibit at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. The Elumenati provided projection systems, developed the user interface, and integrated Unity3D and augmented reality software for the exhibit’s interactive controls.  “The dolphin, designed after a real animal, Holly, with a 29-year sighting record in North Carolina, responds to correct answers to challenging questions by illustrating behaviors, such as swimming, catching fish and breathing through a blow hole,” said Aquarium Director Peggy Sloan. This project – the third time we’ve worked with the Aquarium – was funded by a NOAA Ocean Education Grant, and teaches visitors about the impacts of global change on the natural habitats of dolphins and other marine mammals.
