“New Spaces, New Stories” Conference presentation

Elumenati VP HIlary McVicker presents a talk at Momentum conference

We were invited to present our approach to immersive exhibit design at Momentum, the annual ICEE/ICOM conference,  held this year in Medellin, Colombia.

Our VP of Sales and Marketing, Hilary McVicker, shared “New Stories in New Spaces.” The talk explored the ways immersion facilitates social, collaborative learning experiences and opportunities to co-create with audiences. In a moment when it seems everything is immersive, what makes an immersive experience meaningful rather than just giant and cool? On the technical side, Elumenati truncated dome designs create a sense of presence, and interactivity and audio are critical to that sense. But the most important factor is the stories our clients tell in the immersive space. Designing for the story means that the technology disappears and the audience is fully engaged with content. Emerging tech from the game industry lets us build compelling interactives, and the movement to democratize content creation means that these tools are in the hands of a widening group of users – which creates the opportunity to tell new stories and amplify diverse voices. As an example of collaboration and co-creation, we presented the GeoDome Theater at Science Space at the University of Wollongong. It’s an outreach vehicle for the  fulldome movie The Earth Above, a project which centered indigenous voices from the conceptual stages, to gathering data, to final approval of the story and media. The story combines scientific research and traditional knowledge, and the content creation process fused filmmaking, participatory media, and immersive technologies.

We also presented our range of GeoDome turnkey solutions and the use cases for each in a Marketplace session. It was an honor to join the community of museum leaders and content creators sharing big ideas.
