We put together some highlights of the GeoDome Network conference, a hands-on workshop focused on WorldViewer and other interactive content options for immersive environments and spherical displays.
Featured systems included the GeoDome Globe and GeoDome Panorama, with WorldViewer Stories, Deep Time Maps, and Virtual Stonehenge. We experienced new multi-player interactives in the GeoDome Evolver at the Minnesota State University – Moorhead Planetarium. Guest presentations included OpenSpace and the Immersive Learning Lab at the PEAK Institute.
Conference attendees had this to say:
- I appreciated the active workshopping of topics important to me, being able to brainstorm with others, and getting ideas for other resources to use for free or little cost.
- I appreciated the OpenSpace session in the planetarium, and learning more about how to navigate using OpenSpace
- It was a chance to hear from other educators about their favorite tools and tricks.
Outstanding takeaways:
- The immersive learning lab presentation on how the GeoDome addresses topics other than space in a relatively accessible way.
- Inspiration for using WorldViewer cross-team, creating space for other educators to use the planetarium as teaching space
- Free resources and how to bring them into my system
- The new update to Openspace, the new GUI layout and system in Worldviewer, and the new possible applications of all of the machines
- How versatile GeoDome systems are, and how differently each of us use our systems
- Users plan to expand their programming with Science on a Sphere data, OpenSpace shortcuts, and Google Earth.
- 100% of the users who responded to our survey anticipate using the WorldViewer Stories marketplace to access content and share their own.
It was a great gathering, and we’re excited to continue supporting the GeoDome Network! We’ll host these conferences every second year for clients who subscribe to the GeoDome Network Support plan. GeoDome Network members – we’ll be sending out session recordings soon!
